A tongue-tie release is a procedure, but successful treatment requires a complete process.

In this episode of the Beauty of Breathing Podcast, Renata Nehme speaks with Dr. Suraj Vatish about approaching tongue-tie through function, preparation, individualized care, and collaboration.

They explore:

✨ How a functional release differs from a traditional snip
✨ Why tongue mobility and function matter more than appearance alone
✨ The importance of identifying the symptoms behind a suspected restriction
✨ Why myofunctional therapy may be needed before and after a release
✨ How lactation and feeding support help babies and families
✨ The role of osteopathy, chiropractic care, and cranial bodywork
✨ What a guided tongue-tie release involves
✨ Why tongue space and palatal development must be evaluated
✨ Special considerations for babies, toddlers, teenagers, and adults

Dr. Vatish emphasizes that releasing the tissue alone does not automatically retrain the tongue. Patients may need support to address feeding, oral motor skills, muscle tone, compensations, breathing, speech, swallowing, and postoperative healing.

Dr. Suraj Vatish is an experienced dentist with a focus on oral surgery and periodontics. He earned his dental degree in Valencia and later completed a postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry through the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

With extensive experience in implant dentistry, Dr. Vatish has placed more than 5,000 implants and performs complex procedures including full-arch restorations, All-on-4 treatment, advanced bone grafting, surgical extractions, and wisdom tooth management. His work now also includes function-focused tongue-tie care for children and adults.

Dr. Vatish practices at Happy Kids Dental and American Smile Dental in London. Fluent in English, Hindi, and Spanish, he is able to support a diverse community of patients.

This episode reminds us that the most important question is not simply, “Is there a tongue-tie?” It is, “How is the tongue functioning, and what support does this patient need?”
